Skill Diploma in Food Processing ( 1 year)
In this day and age it has become imperative to process and preserve the food being produced in one particular area in order to make it available to people in other areas. This has given rise to a very important industry of food processing which is being done both on a large scale as well as on a small scale i.e., as a cottage industry. It has thus become necessary to train personnel to set up and run these enterprises.
With this aim SIHM is offering one year Diploma program in Food Processing.
The Objective of this course:
- To Familiarize themselves with effect of processing on nutrients;
- To Develop skill in the various methods of food processing;
- To train and acknowledge the importance of proper packaging and labelling of products;
- To develop entrepreneurial skills in setting up and running an enterprises.
The most common areas of employment are Canning, Dairy and Food Processing, Packaging, Frozen Food / Refrigeration and Thermo-Processing. Some of the sub-sectors of the food processing industry are Fruits & Vegetables Processing, Fisheries, Milk & Milk Products, Meat & Poultry, Alcoholic Beverages & Soft Drinks and Grain processing.
Students can also get employment in the consumer product groups like confectionery, chocolates and cocoa products, Soya-based products, mineral water, high protein foods, soft beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic fruit beverages, etc.
Students have Scope in food Industries, Food Quality Control Laboratories. One can setup his own fruit, vegetable, milk processing plant.
